Aurora

from: Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

After surviving tumultuous times of war in Guatemala, Aurora has made Teton County her home for the last two decades.

Despite her limitations in reading and writing, Aurora’s dedication as a single mother, her entrepreneurial spirit, and her inner strength distinguish her. With courage and a generous heart, she faces every challenge with determination. Her greatest aspiration is to become a nurse; meanwhile, she works selling typical Guatemalan food and at a laundromat in downtown Jackson.

Question:

Have you experienced discrimination in Teton County?

Question:

What advice would you give to other immigrants moving to Teton County?

“Thank you to this county that has given me many opportunities and has opened doors for me. Thanks to God.”

— Aurora

“If I were to ask for something, it would be for the cost of rent to go down and that there would be opportunities for housing.”

— Aurora
